BTS Makes it into Billboards’ Critics ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Album’ of 2018 So Far

BTS recent album “Love Yourself: Tear” has made it into Billboards’ Critics ‘Best Album of 2018 so far”. Their title track for the said album, “FAKE LOVE”, has made it as well in Billboards’ Critics ‘Best Song of 2018 so far.”

Leave it to BTS to break record after record in their ascent up the charts. The K-pop titans dropped a concept album about the loss of love, but there’s no love lost for Love Yourself: Tear: it clinched BTS’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It’s one of their most thematically cohesive yet sonically varied albums, with maximalist production erupting against lyrics about emptiness. The album’s kaleidoscopic genre-hopping is exemplified by the emo-inflected lead single, “Fake Love” – which is not so much a departure as an addendum to the septet’s sound. – CAITLIN KELLEY on BTS’ ‘Love Yourself: Tear’

21. BTS – “Fake Love”

The lead single from new album Love Yourself: Tear, “Fake Love” is BTS’ first top 10 hit in the States, debuting at No. 10 on the Hot 100. And it’s not just popular – it’s damn good. It combines emo, pop, and hip-hop in such a way that only K-pop can, and if you’re not bopping your head by the time you get to Jimin and Jin’s enunciation of “fake-uh looove” on the infectious English-language chorus, then are you sure you have two working ears? – G.G. on BTS’ ‘FAKE LOVE’
