Mei Qi and Xuan Yi to withdraw from Rocket Girls and return to promoting with WJSN
WJSN’s Mei Qi And Xuan Yi leave Chinese “Produce 101” project group Rocket Girls
On August 8, it was announced by Yuehua Entertainment on their official Weibo account that Mei Qi and Xuan Yi will be leaving the Chinese ‘Produce 101′ project group Rocket Girls. Mei Qi and Xuan Yi became members of the group after placing first and second.
The statement was also written with Maverick Entertainment who announced that Winnie (Zhang Zining) will be also leaving the group. The agencies released the following as one of the reasons for the withdraw of the members.
“We believe the unreasonable and unmanageable schedule arrangement will cause mental stress and physical harm to our artists and has also made it impossible for us to ensure that our artists are able to take sufficient breaks.”
Yuehua Entertainment including Starship Entertainment has been in conflict with Tencent (who is in charge of Rocket Girls) over the terms of the contract of WJSN Mei Qi and Xuan Yi. Tencent claims that the members can only promote in Rocket Girls as Yuehua claimed that they were allowed to promote in both groups, which had previously been agreed on. Yuehua Entertainment later clarified that Mei Qi and Xuan Yi, and Starship Entertainment will not be involved in any of Rocket Girl’s activities and will focus on WJSN’s comeback and activities.
Following the news, the Chinese version of ‘Produce 101′ and Rocket Girls’ official Weibo account responded, “There is no legal basis for Yuehua Entertainment’s announcement stating the termination of Xuan Yi and Mei Qi’s contracts. We hope they will honor the exclusive management rights regarding Xuan Yi and Mei Qi.”
